A growing share of U.S. workers say they now use artificial intelligence (AI) in their jobs, reflecting how quickly the technology is reshaping workplaces across the country, according to new data from the Pew Research Center.

The September 2025 survey found that 21% of U.S. workers report using AI for at least part of their work, up from 16% about a year ago. However, the majority (65%) still say they use AI little or not at all on the job.

The share of workers who say all or most of their work involves AI remains unchanged from 2024, at just 2%. But those who say some of their work relies on AI rose from 14% to 19% over the past year.

At the same time, awareness of AI in the workplace has grown. Only 12% of workers now say they haven’t heard or read about AI use at work, down from 17% in 2024.

The rise in AI use has been especially pronounced among college-educated workers. The share of employees with at least a bachelor’s degree who use AI in their work jumped from 20% to 28%, compared with a smaller increase from 13% to 16% among those with some college or less education.

Younger workers, those under 50, are also more likely than older ones to say they use AI on the job.

Even among workers who don’t currently use AI, 36% now believe that at least some of their work could be done by AI, up from 31% in 2024. Nearly half (46%) still say little or none of their work can be replaced by AI, roughly the same as last year.
