A respected Christian leader in southern India was found dead last week, just weeks after publicly expressing fears for his life. The news has shocked and saddened many in the Christian community across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Pastor Praveen Pagadala, 46, was a well-known preacher, author, and Christian apologist. He was actively involved in defending the faith and speaking out against rising incidents of Christian persecution in India—a stance that may have made him a target.

On Monday, 24 March, Pastor Praveen attended a prayer meeting but never returned home. His family, growing increasingly anxious, contacted the authorities when they could no longer reach him. Tragically, his body was discovered the next morning along a roadside in the Rajahmundry district of Andhra Pradesh.

Local police have suggested his death was accidental. However, several details—including the nature of his injuries and the condition of the scene—have raised serious doubts. Many believe foul play was involved, and Christian leaders say the circumstances point to a targeted, premeditated attack.

The pastor’s recent social media post, in which he openly shared concerns for his safety, has only added weight to those fears. His outspoken defence of Christianity and advocacy for persecuted believers may have drawn the attention of hostile groups.

Outside the Rajahmundry Government Hospital, where his body is being held, a crowd of friends, relatives, and concerned Christians have gathered to demand justice. Many insist that the explanation of an accident is not credible and are calling for a transparent investigation. As of now, the autopsy report has not been made public.

In response to the growing public outcry, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh has reportedly ordered the formation of a special investigative team to look into the pastor’s death. Whether this will lead to concrete answers remains to be seen.

Pastor Praveen leaves behind his wife and two young children. A burial service is taking place today in Hyderabad, Telangana, where mourners are expected to gather in large numbers to pay their respects.

His untimely death is a grim reminder of the risks faced by Christian leaders in parts of the country, where believers are increasingly vulnerable to threats, violence, and even death.

The Christian community is united in grief and is calling for truth, justice, and greater protection for those who stand for their faith.
