In a horrifying account brought to light by Ukhrul Times, the horrifying incident of the targeting and torture of Peter Holkholal Mate, an assistant teacher at Bethel High School, Mission Veng, Moreh, Manipur has left the community in disbelief.

Caught unaware of the unrest, Mate was apprehended by Moreh Police Commando personnel at Moreh Bazar while returning home from the school office. The sad press release, issued by the school management committee of the Bethel High School and shared by Ukhrul Times, brings to light the way interrogations take place at the hands of police commandos.
Despite Mate's cooperation, that included revealing his identity and a lack of incriminating evidence, he was falsely implicated as associated with Kuki National Army (KNA) / United National Liberation Front (UKLF) / Village Volunteer and subjected to a brutal physical assault.
Ukhrul Times paints a distressing picture of the events that followed and how Mate endured the cruel stripping, kicking, punching, thrashing, and boot-stamping until he lost consciousness. Left battered and exposed, he was heartlessly abandoned near Moreh Bazar (Dharamsala), with a sinister intent to keep the incident hidden. Astonishingly, he managed to crawl home, showcasing remarkable resilience amidst this harrowing ordeal.
Currently receiving medical care at Lamka District Hospital, the CT scan results are a stark testament to the severity of the physical and psychological trauma inflicted upon the teacher—multiple fractures in the skull, nostril cartilage, facial bone, and jawbone.
Expressing profound anger and disbelief, the School Management Committee, together with teaching and non-teaching staff, parents, and students, vehemently condemned the inhumane actions of the Moreh Police Commando personnel. They demanded the immediate suspension of the perpetrators and urged the state government to expedite a thorough investigation into the incident.
In the face of this grave situation, the School Management Committee issued a stern warning, asserting that without swift justice, parents and students will unite in a series of agitations to highlight this shocking act of police brutality. As per their statement, the Bethel High School community stands together, demanding justice and refusing to let this egregious incident fade into obscurity.
