Formation of Communion of Churches in India heralds new hopes & promises

NEW DELHI : Christians in India will have their share of voice in the country in the form of the Communion of Churches in India (CCI), which is a promising front newly formed.

To begin with, the CCI has called upon the new goverment led by Congress party to fulfill its promise of protecting minorities and upholding the secular fabrics of the country, which has come under questions under the previous government.

The first Executive Committee meeting of the CCI held here yesterday asked the constituent Churches to play more active role in nation building while the prime concern should be maintaining peace and harmony among different communities.

The CCI is the new united Christian front formed formally on March 10, 2004 at Cochin in Kerala, by the grouping of Church of North India (CNI), Church of
South India (CNI) and Mar Thoma Church representing 55 lakhs Christians in India, the CCI will act as a pressure group and see that peace, justice and integrity prevails in the country.

Speaking on the behalf of the Communion, Rev. Enos Das Pradhan, the General Secretary & Acting Treasurer of CNI said that the Church had always been very active in nation building and in fact happy that the Communion has been finally formed so that it can directly deal with social and economic problems faced by dalits and minorities in India so as to uphold the secular fabrics of the country. He said that some people are trying to portray India Christians as
foreigners; through our actions and deeds it is there for everyone to see that we are very much Indians.
