Chennai – The Christian Medical College, Vellore, has been selected as one of the three centres in India where the HIB vaccine (Haemophilus influenza, Type B) probe study would be done, a press release said.
The study, jointly being conducted by the Union Government, through the Indian Council of Medical Research would be collaborated with Johns Hopkins University. The states of Tamil Nadu, Haryana and West Bengal are also participating in this study.
The study would be done in two parts, the first part for enrolling children under the age of two years and the second for collecting preliminary data needed to plan the HIB vaccine probe study in India.
The information would include the incidence of pneumonia and meningitis. The second part would then be extended to a much bigger population in Vellore, the release said.
