Churches and Christian groups across India are preparing to hold nationwide demonstrations on 9 June to speak out against rising incidents of violence targeting believers.
The protests are being organised by the Rashtriya Christian Morcha (National Christian Front), a group working to protect the rights of Christians in India. The Front is partnering with other organisations such as BAMCEF (All India Backward and Minority Communities Employees Federation) and Bharat Mukti Morcha, which advocate for social justice and equality among marginalised groups.
In a letter sent to church leaders across the country, the National Christian Front urged Christians to come together peacefully and raise their voices against ongoing discrimination and attacks. The movement also aims to build unity between Christians and other disadvantaged communities, including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes.
Several other groups supporting minority rights in India — including the National Backward Class Front, the National Tribal Unity Council, and the National Muslim Front — have backed the planned demonstrations.
The rally will take place under the slogans “Stand up for justice” and “Stand together in faith.” Organisers hope the event will draw attention from the central government and highlight concerns over growing hostility and mistreatment of Christians.
A statement from the National Christian Front’s Odisha branch described the situation as urgent, saying that Christians are facing serious attacks and increasing intolerance. “This is not just an issue for Christians — it is a matter of concern for the whole country, for peace, and for the principles of the Constitution,” the statement said.
Religious leaders involved in the protest are calling Christians to unite in defence of justice, dignity, and religious freedom. One bishop described the rally as “a movement of hope, a stand for truth, and a call for unity.”
After the protest on 9 June, the organisers plan to submit a formal appeal to the President of India.
Waman Meshram, national president of BAMCEF and Bharat Mukti Morcha, said the demonstration is a response to ongoing religious discrimination. He encouraged all members and supporters of the groups to join the protest and help ensure its success.
