Hyderabad, Nov. 4, 2004 – Speaking at the bi–centenary celebrations of the Bible Society Movement in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy recently said that the biblical principle of ''love thy neighbour as thy self'' would help solve many ills and problems in the society.
A Christian himself, Dr. Reddy said he was inspired by the Bible teaching ''love thy neighbour as thy self.'' ''In this strange world, we love ourselves and our family more. It is really difficult to love our neighbours as we love ourselves,'' he meditated.
''The message of love and brotherhood of Jesus Christ in the Bible is relevant to the society at all times and people can always follow it,'' he encouraged.
Dr Reddy congratulated the Bible Society of India, Andhra Pradesh Auxiliary for carrying on with the noble task of printing Bibles in various languages.
Lift Irrigation Minister M Mareppa appreciated the Society for printing Bibles in more than 50 languages in India and making them available at affordable prices for the benefit of the people. He asserted that Christianity was not a religion but a way of life.
“Bible is the word of God and it leads mankind in the right path,” he observed.
Speaking on the occasion, Church of South India Moderator and Bishop of Medak Diocese Rt. Rev Dr B P Sugandhar said the teachings of the Bible could bring all mankind together.
“The Bible acts as a guide to the society. It is also a true record of life and teachings of Jesus Christ,” he added.
