Thanks to an international Christian publishing company, several pallets of used Bibles and books will be distributed in India through World Vision and Biblica.
Zondervan has announced plans to donate 40 pallets of gently used Bibles and books to World Vision and Biblica for distribution in Uganda, Zambia, Costa Rica, Chile, El Savador and India.
Through these donations, Zondervan hopes to promote Christianity and get books into the hands of those who really need them.
According to a release, this will bring the total number of pallets donated since July 2010 to 89, a retail value of $1.63 million dollars.
"This program reflects Zondervan's desire to give away product rather than destroy it, or share, not shred," the release stated.
Headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Zondervan books and resources are sold worldwide and are translated into nearly 200 languages in more than 60 countries.
The HarperCollins company first published the New International Version (NIV) Bible in partnership with the International Bible Society.
For over thirty years, Zondervan has given excess and returned product to missions as an extension of their mission to promote Biblical principles and transform lives.
Zondervan is partnering with World Vision to distribute the resources due to their ability to reach areas of the world where populations are most in need of it.
"It feels very wasteful to throw out products that have been returned to our warehouses," said Scott Macdonald, President and CEO of Zondervan.
"We are very excited to partner with World Vision because they are able to reach areas in the world with the most need to place these books in the hands of those who can benefit from the Word of Christ."
