At least 25 people were killed in three separate attacks across Pakistan on 2 September, officials confirmed.

In the deadliest incident, a suicide bomber struck a political rally in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, killing 14 people and injuring dozens more. The explosion took place in the parking area of a stadium where supporters of the Balochistan National Party (BNP) had gathered. Party leader Akhtar Mengal, who had just addressed the crowd, said he was unharmed.

Elsewhere in Balochistan, five paramilitary personnel were killed and four injured when a roadside bomb hit their convoy near the Iranian border.

In a third attack, six soldiers died after militants targeted a paramilitary base in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The assault began when a suicide bomber rammed a vehicle into the camp gate, followed by gunmen storming the base. The firefight lasted 12 hours, leaving all six attackers dead. The militant group Ittehad-ul-Mujahideen Pakistan later claimed responsibility.

Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest province, is rich in resources but remains one of the country’s poorest regions. For years, it has faced an insurgency marked by rising violence, with hundreds killed in 2024 alone. The BNP has long campaigned for greater rights and development for the Baloch people.

Since the beginning of 2025, more than 430 people, mostly security personnel, have been killed in violence across Balochistan and neighbouring Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
