Third volume of encyclopedia on Indian Christianity underway

The third volume of an encyclopedia on the origin and growth of Christianity in India is underway.

Titled "Thomapaedia", the first volume was released in 1973 to mark the 1900th death anniversary of Saint Thomas who is believed to have brought Christianity to India after his arrival in Kerala in AD 52.

While the earlier two volumes elaborately embellished the origin and development of Christianity in India, the third volume will be on a different perspective.

Edited by researcher and writer George Menachery, the third volume according to PTI, describes the Christian liturgy, culture, art and architecture. Furthermore, it will also chronicle the Syrian Christians and its attachment with the Indian culture, heritage and lifestyle.

The work also contains statistics and write-ups by historians, archaeologists, artistes, biographers and lexicographers and a large number of pictures, PTI said.

The venue of the release might possibly be in New Delhi, Menachery indicated.
