Talking Bible: The new tool of evangelism to reach out to the illiterate

New Delhi – The ‘Talking Bible,’ produced and distributed by Talking Bibles International has been making a positive impact in the lives of people in India who cannot read but want to know about God, Christian Today has confirmed.

According to Talking Bibles' Paul Hoekstra, the Bible look–alike machine is scheduled to reach out to 100,000 families in India over the next three years. “With Talking Bibles, with God's Word, that will be [the] program that we carry out over the next three years. So, we're gearing up to work with our partners in India, Talking Bibles–India, to prepare the units," he said.

According to Mission Network News (MNN), it will be manufactured in India, which will keep costs low.

According to Hoekstra, Talking Bible will prove to be a useful tool of evangelism for the missionaries who are trying to reach out to the illeterate. "The non–literate people, the traditionally oral society people, are the last group of people to be reached with the Scriptures. They are being empowered to go out and reach their neighbors," he said.

Presently, the Talking Bibles are distributed mostly in churches in return for a small contribution. This is done for security reasons, explained Hoekstra. "The reason we ask for a small contribution is because then we safeguard ourselves against accusations of trying to persuade people to become Christians by the giving of the Talking Bible," he said.
