Pathanamthitta, Kerala – Kerala CM Oommen Chandy recently called upon the Christian community to “Eschew sectarian attitudes and focus on the uplift of all sections of society,” while he was inaugurating a religio–cultural meet held in connection with the consecration of the re–built St John's Cathedral of the Malankara Catholic Church at Thiruvalla.
“ The Christian Church should not be shy in addressing the resolution of social injustices,” Mr Chandy said. “The challenges posed by the sectarian forces should be met by the Christians using the gospel truths preached by Jesus Christ.”
Mr Chandy said the teachings of Swamy Narayana Guru had relevance in this modern era and added that Christians had to learn a lesson from him.
The Chief Minister lauded the contribution of various denominations of Churches to the radical advancement of education in the State.
Archbishop Cyril Mar Basalios presided over the function.
Ambassador of Vatican Pordo Lopes Kidwane delivered the benedictory speech. Among those who offered felicitations, included Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom of Marthoma Metropolitan, Malliyur Sankaran Nampoothiri and Swami Sushmananda.
