President urges action–plan to tackle terrorism

The Indian President, APJ Abdul Kalam, has urged that an action–oriented solution be formulated to tackle terrorism and low intensity warfare affecting various parts of the world.

"Presently terrorism and low intensity warfare is affecting many parts of the world," Kalam said, favouring "an action oriented solution for evolving a happy prosperous planet and enlightened society."

Delivering the convocation address at the Women's Christian College, Chennai, February 24, the President, who posed the question to students and those receving their degrees whether it would be possible to have a safe and prosperous world, got a resounding 'yes' from them.

Referring to the concept of National Prosperity Index (NPI) as an indicator of quality of life of citizens, he said it would comprise three major components – creation of englightened citizens through education with value system, religion transforming into spiritual force and nations achieving higher NPI.

Urging the students to focus on the mission of transforming the planet into a peaceful, prosperous and happy place to live, Kalam said, "Development of a conflict free society will be a major turning point in human evolution. All of you assembled here may reflect how each one of you individually and collectively can contribute in this mission."

The President also distributed awards and prizes to meritorious students.

Presumably impressed with the singing, including the National anthem, by the college students, the President took them by surprise when he called the choir members for a group photograph with him.
