Parliamentarian praises Church's role in education

Praising Church for its role in uplifting the downtrodden and ensuring high literacy rate in Kerala, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Vayalar Ravi, said Church has always been in the forefront in serving the society.

Rendering the valedictory speech at St Thomas College, the politico said, State is always indebted to the Church and for its contribution in medicine, education and various other phases of human life.

He urged Church to ignore the criticisms from the outside world and stand for developments in the society.

"While criticising the Church for even its small drawbacks, one should not forget its service for the development of the State," he said.

Archbishop Andrews Thazhath in his address said, Church aims to provide the best quality and affordability of education. He urged the State authorities to improve the standards of private and government colleges, and ensure education to all citizens in the state.

St Thomas College, which celebrated its 90th anniversary, boasts of its rich alumni ranging from politicians to eminent scientists and academicians.
