A painting exhibition to mark 100 years of Mother Teresa was opened by Archbishop Bernard Moras in Bangalore.
The exhibition was organised by Renaissance Gallerie and will showcase the art of acclaimed Indian painter Ritu Singh. The event began on July 21 and will conclude on July 25.
Ritu Singh is said to be an ardent admirer of Mother Teresa and had also earlier received an invitation by the Vatican to attend the beatification ceremony of the humanitarian icon.
Opening the exhibition, Archbishop Moras hailed the paintings and also expressed appreciation to Ritu Singh for communicating her love for Mother Teresa through her God-given talent.
Ritu is said to be one of the first to paint Mother Teresa and has apparently been involved in the same from the last 50 years.
While many of the paintings have appeared on BBC, some even were seen in document films on Mother Teresa aired at Cannes.
Meanwhile, celebrations are being planned in Calcutta where Mother Teresa spent most of her life ministering to lepers, the homeless and the poorest of the poor in the slums. It was here she founded the Missionaries of Charity, which consists of over 4,500 sisters and is active in 133 countries.
Mother Teresa was born on 27 August 1910. In 1979 she was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace
