Indian delegation in Kazakh for global inter-faith meet

A delegation of Indian religious representatives has traveled to Astana in Kazakhstan to attend the Third Congress of the Leaders of World and Traditional Religions starting today.

According to the Ambassador of Kazakhstan in India, Dr. Kairat Umarov, a "17 member Indian delegation representing Muslims, Hindus and Christians will be participating in the global conference" on July 1 and 2.

The two-day interfaith conference - attended by delegations from 60 nations including representatives of the United Nations, OSCE and UNESCO - will emphasize on role of religious leaders to promote tolerance, mutual respect and cooperation among countries.

The meet will be inaugurated by Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev who in a statement said was "honored to invite the leaders and high representatives of the world and traditional religions for dialogue between civilizations and religions."

The official representative of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Yerzhan Ashikbayev, said the "role of religious leaders in construction of the world based on tolerance, mutual respect and cooperation will be the theme of the plenary session of the first day of the congress."

The second day, the congress will work in three sections: moral and cultural wealth, dialogue and cooperation, and solidarity.

"Following the results of the forum, the congress participants will accept the address of the participants of III congress," Y. Ashikbayev told Kazakhstan Today.
