A Christian college in Ranchi on Wednesday witnessed the shocking beheading of a teenage girl.
Kusum Kumari, aged 17, was beheaded with a sharp weapon in the campus of St Xavier's College.
Superintendent of Police Sambhu Thakur told media that Kumari was beheaded by an engineering student identified as Vijendra Prasad. An affair between the two is suspected to be the reason behind the murder.
According to the police, both the boy and the girl were from Sonari area of Jamshedpur.
Kumari was an intermediate science student in the Ranchi Women's College and her centre for the ongoing examination was the St Xavier's College
Reports said the accused was waiting with a dagger for Kumari to come out of the exam hall. Around 4.45 pm, Prasad rushed to the girl and slit her throat with a sharp object.
St Xavier's College principal Fr Nicolas Tete has expressed shock over the incident.
"I was told that this afternoon the boy had a heated argument with her on the college campus just before the examination," Tete told TOI.
If a complaint would have been lodged with the college, the assailant could have been prevented from entering the institution, he said.
Sources reported that the accused wanted to commit suicide after killing the victim but was overpowered by students.
