Church to help in nation building, says Nuncio

Pondicherry – “The Catholic Church will always collaborate with those working for human welfare and in building a strong, peaceful, and united India,” said the Nuncio to India, Archbishop Pedro Lopez Quintana while speaking at a public reception accorded to him by the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Pondicherry, at the Petit Seminaire School here early this month.

The papal representative was in Pondicherry for the investiture of Rev. Anthony Anandarayar as the Archbishop of Pondicherry–Cuddalore.

Welcoming Archbishop Quintana, Lieutenant Governor, Madan Mohan Lakhera, said: “We are grateful for all that the Church has been doing in India, be it in education or social service. Others should emulate the Church in the global task of development.”

The Chief Minister, N. Rangasammy, felicitating the papal envoy said, “Pondicherry is proud to receive the ambassador of the Pope in our midst. The visit of a holy person like him will bring more prosperity and peace to this tiny state.”
