Christians Volunteer among thousands affected by the Monsoon flood in Orissa

The monsoon flooding happened in different parts of India, Orissa is one of the worst effected areas, where half a million people are displaced and homeless, among whom are Christian missionaries volunteer serving the Lord, in the remote areas.

Orissa particularly was hit by strong floods forcing them to abandon their homes and livelihoods. Thousands of people had to be evacuated to higher ground due to the flooding.

Christian organisations like Gospel for Asia (GFA) are forced to a numb state unless the water recedes, so that aid and assistance can be provided to the affected area.” Nothing other than food remains with us, rest of all was washed away by the flood", said a GFA Volunteer in the state. Christian volunteers from different parts of India have taken decisions to help the people in Orissa state.

The flooding is expected to get worse because the authorities were forced to open floodgates on a dam on the state's largest river, the Mahanadi that released hundreds of millions of gallons of water from the rain–drenched neighbouring state of Chhattisgarh.
This has been one of the worst floods to have hit the state in more than 50 years.

Another concern is the outbreak of the water–born diseases. The occurrences of such cases have been reported in some areas. The state government too is trying its best to tackle the situation.

The state officials are worried that the flooding might be more severe so early in the monsoon season, which might extend until September.
