Christian ministry prepares to house tsunami orphans in India

Chennai – Fearing that tsunami orphans will be in the streets once the Indian government stops giving grants to those who have sheltered them, international Christian ministry, Hopegivers International, has already begun building orphanages in their anticipation of rescuing them.

According to Hopegivers’ Bill Bray, the Indian government is giving families a ‘block grant’ for taking in orphans. But, once the ‘foster families’ get the grant in their hands and over time, as money will run out, these orphans will be abandoned once again and end up in the streets.

Anticipating this problem, Bray said that their teams have begun building orphanages which, over the next five years, will house the children who will be abandoned. “Because the homes are already established in the community, and are being established, then people will know they can place the children there," he said.
