‘Abandon Faith or Face Massacre’ thousands of Leaflets threatened believers in Karnataka

Thousands of leaflets containing threats against threatening words like 'Christians must abandon their faith or otherwise get killed,' are being largely circulated by from Hindu fanatics in Chitradurga district in Karnakata State yesterday.

The leaflet signed by Hindu radical groups, Bajrang Dal and Hindu Jagrutika Samiti of Chitradurga district in Karnataka stated, “Christians must immediately abandon Indian territory, or return to the mother religion which is Hinduism”. If they do not, “They will be killed by all good Indians, who by doing so will show their virility and their love of the country”.

Written in the local Kannada dialect, the text lists” the “crimes” the Christians commit: Treating everyone with love and showing compassion to the helpless, helping the poor and converting them, educating the orphans and converting them, promoting freedom to marry, organising free medical care and ignoring the caste system”.

Dr. Sajan K. George, President of the Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC) who is spearheading on the defense of persecuted Christians in India has strongly condemned the circulation of hatred leaflets and demanded that all right–thinking persons, the media and the government, he said, "Must cry a halt to the violent hate–mongering being engaged in the name of religion."

This year, attacks on believers in Karnataka have escalated sharply. From small towns to cities including Shimoga, Mysore, Bijapur, and even Bangalore city is no exception have all witnessed attacks on believers in the past few months. One may browse around this website to see all those reports.

Meanwhile, believers in the district are being warned to keep vigil on their movement and activities so that they will not get unwanted attention from such radical groups.
