This year’s March for Life UK is set to be the largest on record, with thousands expected to gather in London on 6 September.
While the March for Life has long been a major annual event in the United States, its British counterpart began more modestly in 2013 in Birmingham with just a few hundred participants. Since then, the gathering has expanded significantly, moving to London in 2018 and drawing up to 10,000 people last year.
Organisers believe this year’s turnout could surpass all previous years, particularly in light of the House of Commons’ recent vote in favour of fully decriminalising abortion at any stage of pregnancy. That decision remains subject to further approval by the House of Lords and royal assent before it can become law.
Pro-life campaigners hope that a large show of support will demonstrate the strength of opposition to such a measure. Catherine Robinson, spokesperson for Right To Life UK, urged: “We encourage all those who value life to come to the March for Life UK and make your voice heard.”
The day will begin at 10am at the Emmanuel Centre, featuring pro-life stalls and a “Pro-life Human Rights Summit.” The march itself is scheduled to start at 1:30pm, concluding with a rally in Parliament Square.
Speakers at the rally will include Carla Lockhart MP, Chair of the Pro-Life All-Party Parliamentary Group; Sara Spencer, a student midwife suspended for expressing pro-life views; Isabel Vaughan-Spruce, co-director of March for Life UK, who has faced arrest and investigation for silently praying near abortion facilities; and Josiah Presley, who survived an abortion attempt.
