Churches urged to take active role in formation of new world order

Kottayam, Kerala – Dr. K. Rajaratnam, Director, Gurukul Lutheran Theological College and Research Institute and former President of NCCI, has appealed to the churches to take an active role in the movement for the formation of a new world order where all human beings can live in freedom.

While delivering the keynote address on the second day of the Triennial Assembly of the Kerala Council of Churches on the theme ‘Another World is Possible’ at Kottayam, recently, Dr. Rajaratnam stressed that more and more people and societies were being marginalized and getting poorer because of the domination of the countries belonging to the First World in the development process.

The divide between the poor and the rich had increased manifold owing to globalization and only 10 percent of the society had benefitted by it, he said.

The country should adopt a development perspective that would help the weaker sections in the society, Dr. Rajaratnam said.

Other dignitaries who addressed the sessions were Bishops Issac Mar Philexinos, Sam Mathew, Yuhanon Mar Milithios, Rev.A.T.Abraham, Philip N.Thomas and P.O.Sunny.
