Christians demand more security for churches in Karnataka amid persecution

Various Christian organizations have urged a top police official to provide more security to Christians and churches and ensure the safety of lives and properties of the minority community in Karnataka.

In the wake of rising attacks on Christians in Hubli–Dharwad region in Karnataka, various Christian leaders met Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) M.S. Srikar recently and apprised him of the growing religious intolerance.

In a memorandum submitted to the DCP, the Christian leaders drew attention to a series of attacks launched upon the minority community, especially in regions like Kalyan Nagar, Hubli and Dharwad.

Fr. Fidilino Aarojo, Rabort Dadapuri, Fr. Diric Fernandes, Fr. Moris Muskaranas, Fr. Philip Kutti, Fr. Pramod Dhalabhanjan, Sr. Irin and others, who led the delegation, have urged the police to conduct an inquiry into the incidents and bring the the culprits to justice. They also demanded that the police ensure security to all the churches in the region during night.

According to media reports, DCP Srikar has assured them that an inquiry would be conducted into the incidents.
