Jayalalitha Greets Christians on Account of Christmas

Chennai – Tamil Nadu Governor S S Barnala and Chief Minister Jayalalitha extended their Christmas greetings on December 24, the eve of the festival.

'On the happy occasion of Christmas, let us resolve to propagate noble human values and promote amity and peace,' Barnala said in his message on the eve of the festival.

Jayalalitha said Jesus Christ was the embodiment of mercy, love and affection. "Let peace be there in every place", she said.

TNCC President G K Vasan, in his message, said Bible preached that love was the basis for any thing in the world and Jesus Christ not only preached but also practiced it.

MDMK Chief Vaiko said the people should take a vow to propagate and maintain communal amity.

Incidentally, Tamil Nadu came under scathing attack from the Christian community caught the glare of the media earlier this year when Jayalalitha’s government resolved to impose draconic anti–conversion laws to ‘maintain communal harmony’ but was subsequently forced to repeal the same when the Hindu nationalist coalition government NDA fell at the Center.
