Church Committee to discuss CNI dispute

Ranchi – In the light of the developments at the Church of North India (CNI) which has been rocked by allegations of corruption, commercialisation and centralisation of power, leaders of the All Churches Committee on October 21 announced that they would discuss the issue at length at their meeting slated for early November.

The All Churches Committee is the coordinating body that acts on behalf of the heads of all the various churches in India. However, according to news sources, the Committee could not decide on the issues that would be taken up as the CNI representatives were absent at the meeting.

“The All Churches Committee does not intend to interfere in the internal matter of any church. Several leaders of the various churches sought to raise the CNI issue and that was evident from the demonstration by several hundred CNI followers outside the venue of the Synod held at Bishop Westcott Boys’ School throughout the six–day session that ended today,” a Committee spokesman said.

Meanwhile, CNI Moderator, Bishop Joel V. Mal, has strongly refuted allegations of commercialisation of its educational institutions and has added that Dalits and the marginalised would continue to be the focus of all Church activities.
