Christians Deny Allegation of International Conspiracy Behind Kanchi Seer’s Arrest

Hyderabad – Kanchi seer, Jayendra Saraswati’s arrest has made Hindu right–wing parties see red and many of them are now alleging that the revered Hindu saint is the victim of an international Christian conspiracy.

Spearheading this allegation is the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief KS Sudarshan, who, while was addressing the eastern Andhra Sangh Swayamsevak meeting in Kammam recently, said that the Christian lobby felt unhappy with the reforms undertaken by Jayendra Saraswati in the context of communal conversions and his initiative in settling the issue of Ram Temple at Ayodhya.

He alleged that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa implicated the seer in the false cases at the instance of the UPA government.

Hindu nationalist groups also launched protests and hunger strikes, saying the arrest was a conspiracy organized by “Christians and Sonia Gandhi” to defame Hinduism – a charge vehemently denied by Christian groups. Though prosecutors say Saraswati admitted to arranging the murder in a “moment of weakness,” yet devotees believe their leader is innocent.

LK Advani, president of the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said that he believed Saraswati’s arrest would lead to renewed support for the party and expected to gain political mileage out of this.
