In the pursuit of becoming better and understanding one's self, many have gone through the process of self-discovery. These people at times use a variety of techniques and other especially-designed methods in order to draw out and discover what's really inside them.
But did you know that there's a better, easier, 100 percent fool-proof way to do that, and at no extra cost? This especially-designed method has been proven for ages. And unlike today's methods that have been invented by scientists, psychologists and other "–ists," this one has been developed by the one who made man – God Himself. Yes, it's the Bible.
The Only Thing We Need to Discover Ourselves
The Bible is the only thing we need to accurately and honestly discover ourselves. Other tests have hits and misses, and can only give out almost accurate results when the person subjected to it is totally and unabashedly honest. The Bible, however, is able to accurately, precisely, and perfectly describe what's inside a person's heart, even his well-kept secrets.
Hebrews 4:12-13 tells us:
"See, the Word of God is alive! It is at work and is sharper than any double-edged sword — it cuts right through to where soul meets spirit and joints meet marrow, and it is quick to judge the inner reflections and attitudes of the heart. Before God, nothing created is hidden, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of him to whom we must render an account."
One Who Knows Us More Than We Know Ourselves
The Word of God is able to discern our hearts and minds simply because He who spoke it knows us more than we do.
David beautifully acknowledges this truth in Psalm 139:
"O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I'm far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord. You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!"
True enough, my friends, God knows us better, and is able to let us see our real selves more accurately compared to any man-made test.
A Personal Experience
Psychological tests and other self-discovery techniques could never compare to how the Bible worked for me. I've taken all sorts of tests, but none of them told me that I needed God. I've taken different kinds of tests, but none of them told me that I am loved by God so much that He sent His Son to die for me in my place. I've taken different personality, aptitude, temperament, and skill tests, but none of them ever told me that I am in sin and in desperate and absolute need of Christ's salvation.
All these man-made tests made me focus on me. The Bible made me see how small I am, yet I am loved by the biggest Man ever: God Himself. All these man-made tests made me realise how imperfect and incompetent I am, but God's Word showed me how I am able to do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Man-made tests didn't show me the real me. God's Word did, and will do that to you, too.
