Inspired and fascinated by the charity, humanitarian, and selfless services of the noble lady Mother Teresa, Phillip C. Tocher, the nominated Anglo-Indian MLA, said he wants to work for the betterment of Christians.
"I am fortunate to find all the great qualities of the mother in N T Rama Rao, the founder of Telugu Desam Party and joined as a member and doing my level best for the cause of the poor and the needy," he said.
From the age of 18, Tocher developed an affinity for social service and wanted to work for the betterment of the poor, as he always wanted to follow the footsteps of Mother Teresa.
After the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu wanted to nominate Tocher as an MLA to represent the Christians in general and the Anglo-Indian community in particular, he told Hans India.
He helped to build a Central Christian Bhavan at Adavitakallapadu in suburban Guntur on two acres land at a cost of Rs 10 crore. He said the state was planning to set up one Christian Bhavan in 13 district headquarters.
Tocher said he is working on some issues related to lands allotted to the Christian Bhavans, and lack of burial grounds for the departed in the Christian community.
For Christians in Guntur, a land near Gorantla would be given to be used as cemetery, and for Christians in Vizag, a land near NH16 towards to Vizianagaram would be provided for burial.
The state is determined to initiate more schemes through Christian Finance Corporation, said Tocher.
