Prayer - a way to fight spiritual battle and Christian persecution

Since 2014, violence against religious minorities has increased and the pro-Hindu government led by BJP is blamed for the increasing persecution in the country.

Furthermore, lawmakers are trying to place a stumbling block before Christians and other minorities by preparing a nationwide anti-conversion law.

Another rule requiring members of nonprofit NGOs receiving foreign funds to file an affidavit declaring that they will not involve in any kind of religious conversions was announced by Home Minister Amit Shah last week.

Hindu extremists use these laws as a medium to target religious minorities, placing them under the risk of continuous persecution.

Within the first eight months of 2019, over 200 incidents of violence against Christian were reported.

Earlier this summer, India was criticized by the U.S. State Department for its poor religious freedom record. But the country's authorities defended the statement by saying South Asia was proud of its status as the largest democracy and a pluralistic society with a longstanding commitment to tolerance and inclusion.

If the nationwide anti-conversion legislation moves forward, it will directly affect Christians and other minorities in the country.

Todd Nettleton, spokesman of the Voice of the Martyrs USA, highlighted that Christians can find hope and fight the spiritual battle through prayer.

According to him, "there is a sense of preparation" and Christians should pray for the spiritual protection of churches and believers in the country and stand with the ministry leaders as they will face a hard time in the coming days. He also wanted them to pray for the government officials to be changed and protect religious minorities rather than attacking them.
