A pastor in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh has been accused of raping a 12-year-old girl on Sept. 4.
The 51-year-old who pastors at a small church in Kuravakaluva village of Renigunta Mandal took the girl to a desolate place near his church and raped her. However, as the girl's family was scared to approach the police, the reports came to light only the next morning when some women from the village went ahead and lodged a complaint with police, according to India Times.
One of the womenfolk said the pastor, who has been identified as Paneer Selvam, forced himself on the minor. She with others rushed to the spot, overpowered Selvam, tied him to a wooden pole and thrashed him.
The girl was rushed to nearby hospital for medical examination.
As the complaint was not filed the same night the incident took place, it was noted that the church authorities took the accused away from the village.
The police are currently investigating the case.
