Over thousand Manipuri Christians pray for peace

Over thousand Christians in Manipur joined a whole-night prayer service for peace and harmony in the state.

On Friday, Christians from different denominations and districts gathered for prayer at Iboyaima Sumang Leela Sanglen in Imphal as "general public are grieved with daily killing, constant public strikes and extortion by various militant groups."

The gathering was organized by the All India Christian Council in collaboration with churches, NGOs and missions in Manipur.

"Manipur has reached the stage, seemingly not able to return back to normal life unless God have mercy on the state," a statement said.

Christians who participated in the event pledged to regularly pray for Manipur until the killing stopped, peace and normal life returned. The initiative will be carried on further in local churches and at the district and block level, says state secretary of aicc, Kh Chaoba.

According to Chaoba, Christians in the state are very concerned about several situations that stand threatening to the stability and growth of the state. He appealed to people to give peace a chance by working for change.

Manipur from long has witnessed raging separatist insurgency, ethnic conflicts and active militant groups jeopardizing the future prospects of the young generation.
