Nun found dead in Kerala's convent, police suspect murder

Police are investigating the mysterious death of Sister Amala of Lisieux Carmel Convent which falls under Kottayam district police, Kerala.

In a gruesome incident, a nun of Lisieux Carmel Convent was found dead in the confines of her convent room in Palai diocese of Kerala, yesterday morning.

According to Kottayam District police in whose jurisdiction the Palai diocese comes, the cause of the death "was the deep head injury." A possibility of murder was not ruled out considering the nature and the size of the wound.

The 69 year old nun, identified as Sister Amala of of the Congregation of Mother Carmel (CMC), was suffereing from fever for the last few days. After she fail to turn up for the morning mass at the chapel, some nuns went to her room not knowing what has befallen her. They found her murdered with a deep wound to her head.

According to a source, the victim's room was not barged from inside and nun's in the adjoining rooms did not hear any commotion which could have aroused suspicion.

Police investigations are underway. No arrests have been made at press time.
