Massive Fire in Nepal Destroys 40 Houses, Church

Massive fire has destroyed over 40 houses and a church in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Early this month, a massive fire broke out in a squatter area in front of the fruits market at Balkhu in Kathmandu.

The flames started from the house of Man Bahadur B.K. at around 11 p.m. on Oct. 1. According to police, the fire started from an oil lamp and soon spread to other houses, catching some 15 cooking gas cylinders causing huge explosions.

Three people were severely injured in the incident, according to Kathmandu Post. The belongings of 40 houses were also completely reduced to ashes due to the fire.

According to the report, a church in the area also suffered damages in the inferno.

After hours of struggle, the Nepal Army's five fire brigades brought the fire under control around 2 a.m. midnight.
