Jacintha Saldanha laid to rest

Christian nurse Jacintha Saldanha, who committed suicide after becoming a victim of a prank call made by Australian radio DJs, was buried in her husband's home town in Shirva near Mangalore on Monday.

About 2,000 people attended the memorial service in Our Lady of Health Church in Shirva, overseen by the Catholic Bishop of Udupi, Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo.

"Jacintha Saldanha spent her entire life looking after people who were sick and today it is our turn to show our appreciation of her work and her life," said Dr Lobo.
"Jacintha was a good mother, good wife and understood the pain of people," he added, according to a report published by The Independent.
Jacintha's coffin, covered with flowers and with a photographic portrait on top, was carried out of the church.

Jacintha's husband Benedict Barboza and their son, 16, and daughter, 14, were joined by relatives and local residents

Former Union Minister Janardhan Poojary, Karnataka State Muzrai Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, MA Ghafoor, and BJP Udupi district president Udaykumar Shetty, Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon reportedly came to the church to pay their last respects.

The body of the Indian-origin nurse reached Mangalore on Sunday. Jacintha's husband and her children accompanied the coffin from London.

Jacintha got involved in a hoax call on December 4 from a radio station in Australia when she was on duty at the hospital where Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middletown was admitted after she complained of acute morning sickness.

She was found hanging in her nurses' quarters at King Edward VII hospital on December 7.

The British Police recovered three notes from her room in which she mentioned about the prank call and how upset she was about the incident.
