Home Minister meets Christian Delegation; Promises Protection and Security

Delegation of Catholic Bishop Conference of India (CBCI) meeting Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh assured the delegation of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) that government will take stern action against those who incite violence against the Christian community.

Speaking to a three-member delegation, led by Albert D'Souza, Archbishop of Agra, CBCI Secretary General and Deputy Secretary General Monsignor Joseph Chinnayan, Rajnath Singh promised "full security and protection to Christians," as per their official statement, after meeting the Home minister last Monday.

Expressing hope the minister extend full cooperation of the State government machinery in maintaining law and order and communal harmony in the country.

The visiting delegation expressed their gratitude and found the minister's assurance 'satisfying' while expressing confidence in the personal interest shown by him.

Past few months have seen a growing number of incidents of alleged vandalism of Churches and educational institution in Delhi as well as Northern States in India which led to the Home Minister asking the police to take all necessary steps for the protection and safeguard of the community.
