HIV/AIDS vaccine will be available in Indian market within 3 years, says President Kalam

Shillong – “HIV/AIDS vaccine will be ready and available in the Indian market within three years,” said Indian President, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, while addressing a high–level meeting held recently in Shillong to tackle the growing problem of HIV/AIDS in the armed forces.

India, ranked second in number of HIV/AIDS affected population in the world, has over five million infected people.

"I'm sure that this vaccine will be available in the market and can be administered within three years," said Dr. Kalam, while emphasising the role of Indian pharmaceutical giants.

Though many medical experts may not share the President’s optimism as vaccine trials began in India only early this year and the vaccines require testing over a long period of time, yet, everyone agrees that such a vaccine would be a great boon to the hapless and illiterate millions of women and migrant workers who are most vulnerable to the fast spreading pandemic.
