Hannover: With the growing cases of attack on churches in India, the leading Indian industrialist and head of the Kirloskar Brothers Limited, Sanjay Kirloskar offered the first words of caution to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Meeting PM Modi at the Hannover Messe 2015, the world's biggest Industrial Fair, Mr Kirloskar referred to a series of attacks on churches and other Christian institutes in the past few months.

Citing that most Investors in foreign countries are Christians he stressed the need of an hour for the Indian government to make clear the secular nature of India to attract investment.

In the backdrop of small group demanding "Protect India's minorities", Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the massive Fair that has drawn top leaders of India Inc. Mr Kirloskar could not have timed the investors' concern any better than at the stage where the government's free hand is letting the Hindutva fundamentalist forces run rampant with their agenda.

On his maiden trip to Europe the purpose of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit is to boost and encourage foreign investment.

Kirloskar further added, " "I am sure that the Prime Minister is talking to his people ... we have to send the right messages and make sure that this development story doesn't get sidelined."

Since the beginning of December 2014, five churches have been attacked in Delhi and two convents have been broken into.

Sanjay Kirloskar is the chairman and managing director of Kirloskar Brothers Ltd, the flagship & holding company of the $3.5 Billion Kirloskar Group.
