Goa: Govt vacancies to be advertised through churches, NGOs

In an effort to make filling of government vacancies more principled, the Goa state government has decided to circulate advertisements of available posts through religious establishments and NGOs.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told the state Legislative Assembly that the decision would ensure fairness in filling government vacancies in future. Until now advertisements were only created on newspapers.

"I want people to apply for the vacancies. I will send the advertisement to the churches, temples and non-government organisations (NGOs)," a Press Trust of India (PTI) report quoted him saying.

The chief minister today was criticised for the government's decision to scrap various posts which were filled by the erstwhile Congress-led government.

Opposition legislators Aleixo Lourenco Reginaldo and Vijay Sardesai alleged that the state government had "caused injustice to genuine youths, who were selected for various posts."

Several hundred posts were scrapped from various departments by the present government on grounds that they were illegally filled. The occupants are stated to have violated the election code of conduct which was in effect for Goa's Assembly elections this year.

Parrikar said the violations committed by few of the officers were "brazen" and investigations into them could put them (officers) into serious problem.

"Some letters were signed late night on the day when election code of conduct came into effect," he said, adding that the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) of crime branch is investigating all these cases.
