An elderly woman in Andhra Pradesh was killed on March 21 for leaving Hinduism for Christianity ten years ago.

Chadarajupalli Subbaravamma, who was in her mid 60s, was on her terrace that evening reading her Bible and praying when a man climbed the stairs and killed her.

Her husband Jayaramaiah reported that an hour after Subbaravamma went upstairs to read Bible and spend some quiet time in prayer and worship, he and some neighbors saw a young man climbing the stairs.

The murderer later confessed that her decision to leave Hindu gods and trust in Jesus and pursue her new faith had angered him.

Subbaravamma had converted to Christianity in her 50s. Even after ten years, the assailant had been waiting for a chance to kill her, and that day he got the right opportunity.

The assailant was a construction worker in a local Hindu temple.

Mohan Rao, a pastor of a local church, told World Watch Monitor that Subbaravamma previously worked at the Hindu temple, making statues. After leaving Hinduism, they took up hard labor instead.

Since then, she would be the first one to make it to the church on Sundays, he added.

"She was a strong believer," he said, according to Open Doors USA.
