The Supreme Court has cleared the way for investigation of a case of funds misuse in a Christian NGO, by dismissing its appeal. The court on Sept. 30 has directed the CID to speed up the investigation of the case against Secunderabad-based Christian NGO, Operation Mobilisation India (OMI).

In Sept. 2016, the NGO's former chief financial officer Albert Lael Gowripaga had alleged that the NGO and its principal trustee Joseph D'souza had amassed more than Rs 100 crore.

Gowripaga, according to Times of India, claimed that the money was donated by foreign donors for a program to educate Dalit children. However, D'souza has misused the funds, investing elsewhere for personal benefits, he said.

A complaint was lodged with the CID, which the NGO unsuccessfully contented in the High Court. The case then moved to the apex court, which also dismissed the appeal and directed the CID to complete its investigation.
