CCTV Captures Man Stealing Church Funds in Delhi; Accused Arrested

A 29-year-old man allegedly broke the lock of a donation box and stole money from it during a prayer meeting held at the Church of North India in Lutyens' Delhi area on Jan 3. He was caught on a CCTV and was arrested.

The accused, identified as Pawan Kumar Chouhan, acted like he was also participating in the prayer meeting conducted at CNI Church at Pandit Pant Marg. But without anyone's knowledge, he broke the lock of the box and stole the money from the box.

"At 6pm, a man was spotted standing near the donation box with a bible in his hand. While he acted like he was also participating in the prayer he broke the lock of the donation box and took out all the money from the box," said a senior police officer.

The entire act of stealing was caught on CCTV. The police was informed and Chouhan was arrested.

A sum of Rs 1,300 was recovered from him.

According to the police the accused was involved in two other theft cases with the same modus operandi in the jurisdiction of the North Avenue police station.
