The Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) has been looking forward to hold its 33rd general body meeting at St John's National Academy of Health Sciences, Koramangala, Bengaluru, from Feb. 2 to 9.
Led by Cardinal Baselios Cleemis, president of the CBCI, nearly 200 bishops are expected to attend the biennial meeting of the apex body of the Catholic Church, which has more than 20 million members.
Under the banner "I am with you always, even to the end of the ages", the bishops will discuss how church can "preserve the secular fabric of the country and uphold the constitutional values," read a statement from CBCI.
The bishops will also discuss and decide "new ways of partnering the Governments at the state and central level in nation building and developmental projects with a special concern for the dalits, tribals and the marginalized," the statement continued.
During the meeting, a president and two vice presidents will be elected for the next two years.
"Offices and councils as well as other CBCI affiliated organizations will report on their activities and the bishops will deliberate the way forward for the work of the church in India," read the statement.
