Seven people were killed and 21 children and young adults kidnapped by the Boko Haram Islamic terrorist group in Christian villages in North Cameroon.

According to reports from Amnesty International, at least 275 people have been killed since January 2019 in the region, of which 225 were innocent civilians.

When the Islamic extremists targeted Mayo Sava district in early December, gunmen opened fire on people gathered at a funeral in Kotserehé. They were forced to flee in all directions. Women fled without being able to take their children with them. Four people were killed and three were wounded in the attack.

"A place of mourning has turned into a theatre of war that has ended in carnage," an eyewitness said.

The following night, large number of armed militants attacked Zangola village where three people were murdered and one wounded. When the villagers ran for their lives, the Boko Haram militants robbed their homes, and took their food and clothing.

In Yagoua village, the militants caused extensive damage in 11 homes and took away their food and basic belongings.

On December 5, the militants targeted the Mbreche village. They searched each house and kidnapped nine girls and 12 boys. However, four of the young people managed to escape from the militants.

The militant group is known to force the kidnapped people to become Boko Haram soldiers and fight in favour of the Islamic radicals.

Since the villages are isolated and connected by poor roads, it is difficult for the Cameroon army to fight the Boko Haram as they attack and escape through main roads to their base in Nigeria.
