Bishop William D’Souza, was this week, appointed the new Archbishop of Patna, due to the resignation of Rev Benedit J. Osta from the pastoral governance of the Archdiocese of Patna.
The ecclesiastical provision was made public in Rome on Monday, Oct. 01, 2007 at noon time, according to CBCI news.
Bp William D'Souza who is also the Bishop of Buxar in Bihar was consecrated Bishop on March 25, 2006 with Archbishop Pedro Lopez Quintana, Apostolic Nuncio in India as the main consecrator.
The Bishop, who is a Jesuit, was born in 1946 in the province of Patna. In 1976, after completing Philosophy in Shembanagur in Tamil Nadu and theology in Jnana Deepa Vidyapeet in Pune, he was ordained priest.
Apart from serving as assistant Novice Master for the superior of Jesus communities in various places, he was also the Rector of the Minor Seminary in Muzaffarpur, parish priest, secretary to Bishop of Muzaffarpur and also the Administrator of Muzaffarpur diocese for a year.
