KOLKATA: An early morning attack on Wednesday at the Believers Church missionary school at Madhyamgram in 24 Parganas District of West Bengal left ransacked class rooms along with destruction of official and educational equipments.
The almirah in an office room was found open and several articles in the almirah were also found scattered on the floor.
Located at Abdalpur in Madhyamgram, barely 4 km from Kolkata Airport the school comes under Kolkatta Diocese of Believers Church.
As the news spread, panic gripped the bishop, fathers, nuns and the other teachers in the school.
Mr. Rabin Dutta, regional coordinator of the school, mentioned that the attackers damaged the books, study papers, furniture, study equipment, along with musical instruments and food rations kept for the students.
Mostly from underprivileged background there are about 130 students who receive free education in that school. Lunch is also provided to them.
Demanding immediate arrest of the culprits the parents of the students also stood in solidarity with the school.
According to a source the incident took place around 2.30 am as the culprits used the open bathroom window to sneak in.
The incident triggered a wide scale tension in the area as the school remained closed on Wednesday.
The bishop of the school, Juria Bardhan, has lodged a formal complaint on Wednesday with Madhyamgram police station.
Police are investigating the matter. No arrests have been made till press time.
