Audrey Assad sings with her heart and soul

Audrey Assad went to the top of the iTunes Christian Albums chart this week with her new album, Heart.

The acclaimed singer's latest project released on Valentine's Day and features 12 tracks that, as the title suggests, are all about her longing heart for God.

It was well received when friends and colleagues sat down with lots of chocolate to give the album a first listen.

Heart finds Assad once again collaborating with songwriters Matt Maher and Derek Webb, and producer Marshall Altman (Brooke Fraser, Natasha Bedingfield, Marc Broussard) for a collection of truly humble, moving and reverential songs.

It's a project that Assad is proud of and hopes others will enjoy as much as she does.

"I worked on Heart with all of my heart, and I am so, so proud of it," says Assad.

"In both its strengths and its inevitable weaknesses, it was crafted with as much humanity and honesty as I could summon â€" I love this music, and I can't wait to share it with the world."

Assad has become something of a staple for Christian music lovers since the release of her debut album, The House You're Building, in 2010.

The album was named "Best Christian Music of 2010" by Amazon.com and "Breakthrough Album of the Year" in the Christian and gospel genre by iTunes.

She's just wrapped up her supporting stint on Matt Maher's tour and from March 23 will be hitting the road for a spring tour with singer-songwriter JJ Heller.
