Archdiocese of Bombay has written a letter to Press Council of India (PCI) saying that an article that was published in a tabloid about St Michael Church Mahim is unfair. The archdiocese verified the development this week.
Following an article carried by the local newspaper which reported about CCTV camera installed in women's washroom of Mahim Church, the Archdiocese of Bombay is likely to file a defamation suit. However, the church body hasn't mentioned anything about it clearly, except approaching the PCI on this article. "We have send a letter to PCI on the same," sources added. "We have expressed our grievance in the letter."
Due to the newspaper report, which said women will stop attending the church if the camera was not removed from the washroom, there is bad blood now. The church, according to Free Press Journal, is taking signatures of the churchgoers to file a defamation suit.
"We understand the sentiments. Just because a group responded in one particular way, does not mean we will take a similar route," said a source, the journal added.
However, no priest from the Archdiocese of Bombay has commented on the defamation.
