Another church vandalized in Mumbai, no arrest so far

After attacks on churches across various states, yet another church at New Pavel in Navi Mumbai was vandalized on Suturday morning, no arrest has been made so far.

According to the Khandeshwar police, the attack was carried out by two masked men who were riding pillion on a motorcycle around 1:30 AM who hurled stones at the Saint George Catholic church.

The CCTV footage found from the church premises show three men hurling stones at the church.

During this attack, a statue of St George which is placed right outside the church enclosed in a glass box was damaged.

"We are questioning several people on grounds of suspicion of their involvement in the crime. However, we are yet to lay our hands on concrete clues," Assistant Police Commissioner SB Suryavanshi said.

The incident came after another church was vandalized in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh on Friday, just a week after a church in Hisar, Haryana was vandalized, Delhie alone had its five churches and a school vandalized since December. It also came in the light of a gang-rape of a 71-year-old nun in West Bengal that had engaged Christians.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Rajnath Singh has assured stern action against the perpetrators, "I will go to any extent to protect minorities. I will do everything to end the sense of insecurity prevailing among minorities."

One Christian leader who chose to remain anonymous told Christian Today that such statement from the Home Minister makes no much sense, although Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself spoke strongly against the divisive forces, attack on churches continue to happen. "Unless they take their words seriously, words alone will not do," the leader said.

The attack on the church came amidst another church vandalism in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh on Friday. These two came after a series of church attacks in Delhi where 5 churches and one school were targetted, all happening within 3 months; and also a church in Hisar district of Haryana was vandalized few weeks ago and also the gruesome gang-rape of a 71-year-old nun in West Bengal.
