A 106-year-old woman proudly displayed her discharge certificate as she walked out of the hospital after fighting COVID-19 for 10 days and overcoming it in Thane, Maharashtra.

With a big smile on her face, Anandibai Patil flaunted her discharge certificate before the media on September 20.

Doctors and nurses of the COVID-19 treatment facility set up by the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) at Savlaram Krida Sankul (sports complex) sent Patil home with a warm farewell.

According to the elderly woman's daughter-in-law, hospitals were reluctant to admit Patil because of her age. But the KDMC facility admitted her and treated her for COVID-19.

"We are really thankful to the hospital's medical team who took proper care of her and helped her in defeating the coronavirus," Patil's daughter-in-law said.

Doctor Rahul Ghule, managing director of the "One Rupee Clinic" that is managing the COVID-19 treatment facility, was happy that Patil responded to the treatment successfully, and appreciated his team for taking care of the elderly woman.

Earlier in May, a 106-year-old man named Mukhtar Ahmed also defeated COVID-19 in Nawabganj, Central Delhi.

Ahmed contracted the infection from his son and was admitted in Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital on April 14. He put up a brave fight against the virus and was discharged on May 1.

Dr. BL Sherwal, the medical director of the hospital, called Ahmed's recovery as an "inspiring news" because of the elderly's age.
